The Frazine Taylor Genealogy Collection 9 cubic boxes, 1 1/2 box, 1 large folder, 1 envelope; 11 cubic feet The Frazine Kennett Taylor Genealogy Collection consist of correspondence, reports, pamphlets, genealogy and Alabama History books, genealogy workshop material, articles, posters and certificates relating to tracing African American Family History. Additional material included relates to the Black Heritage Council (BHC) an Advisory Council to the Alabama Historical Commission, Knoxville College Yearbooks (1964-'67), Talladega College, the Cemetery Preservation Alliance Board and the National Trust for Preservation. Ms. Taylor is a native of Wallsboro, Alabama, and a member of the Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church where she is also the church's secretary and librarian. She is the daughter of the late Professor John L. and Martha Odessa Blowe Jones, and the granddaughter of the late Squire and Georgia Monroe Jones, Yancy B. and Miranda Amelia Hobson Blowe of Wallsboro, Alabama. Ms. Taylor is a graduate of Southern Normal High School, Brewton, AL. She holds a B.S. in Business Commerce from Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tennessee and a received her Master in Library Science in Library Services from Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA in 1984. She is a former Peace Corps Volunteer, who lived in the Fiji Islands for several years, and she has traveled extensively in the South Pacific. She worked in the Peace Corps Headquarters in Washington, DC from 1970-1976, where she was in charge of sending peace corps volunteers to overseas posts. In 1985, while working as Assistant Cataloguer at the Tuskegee University Library, she was chosen to work as an intern at the National Agricultural Library in Beltsville, MD. Ms. Taylor is the former Head of Reference for the Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH) and was an expert on Alabama records at ADAH. She works part-time at Alabama State University (ASU) as an Archivist. Ms. Taylor is the President of the Elmore County Association of Black Heritage and Chair of the Black Heritage Council of the Alabama Historical Commission. She serves on the boards of the Patrons for the Study of Civil Rights and African American Culture at ASU, the Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance, the Friends of the Alabama Archives and the Alabama Governor's Mansion Authority. Since 2004, Ms. Taylor has coordinated the African American Course for the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) at Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. Ms. Taylor researched family roots and ties to Alabama for the PBS series for Tom Joyner, Linda Johnson Rice, and Condoleezza Rice, for African American Lives 2 (2008) and Finding Your Roots (2012). Ms. Taylor is the author of, "Researching African American Genealogy in Alabama: A Resource Guide", published in 2008. |
