President Robert C. Hatch Collection, Interim President: January 1 - September 30, 1962. 1 1/4 box; 0.2 cubic foot This collection consists of a description of Robert C. Hatch as acting president of Alabama State University (ASU). Papers in the collection cover his correspondence with the faculty, students and administration. For nine months in 1962, Robert Clinton Hatch, dean of the graduate division, served as acting president of Alabama State University. Dr. Hatch early education started in Perry County schools, high school, Lincoln Normal School, Marion, Alabama, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from State Teachers College (ASU), Montgomery, Alabama. He received a Master of Arts degree from Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee and Ed. D. degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. Dr. Hatch served as Professor of Education at Alabama State College from 1947-1955, Supervisor of Instruction, Alabama State Department of Education (1947-1961), State Jeanes Supervisor (1945-1947). He also worked as a rural school teacher, County Training school principal, and a supervisor of adult schools in Perry County, Alabama. He served as Principal of Carver High School, Gadsden, Alabama; and Supervisor of student teaching, State Teachers College (ASU), Montgomery, Alabama. Dr. Hatch's list of professional affiliations include, Alabama State Teachers Association (1938-1942); Recording Secretary, Alabama State Teachers Association (1942-1955); Executive Secretary; American Teachers Association-State Director, Vice President; Alabama Association of Jeanes Supervisors-President, Secretary-Treasurer; National Jeanes Teachers Association-Director of Publications; Alabama Association of School Principals--Research Secretary; Alabama Leadership Study Council-Founder and Director of Special Projects. |
