Joseph E. Lacey Collection 6 cubic boxes, 1 1/4 box, 1 large flat box, 4 metal boxes of 8MM film reels; 23 cubic feet. This collection consists of 8 mm film reels, newspaper clippings, Alabama State University (ASU) booklets, educational guides for teachers, documents concerning the Department of Labor, and ASU related celebrations and banquets. Joseph E. Lacey was a teen participant in the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott. Toward the boycott's end, he drove a church station wagon, carrying people back and forth to mass meetings. The police frequently trailed him, but he was never stopped. He states that he, "learned every little street in Montgomery so that I could lose the police." |
