Representative Thad McClammy Collection 42 cubic foot boxes, 4 Maps; 51 cubic feet. The collection consist of significant documents and materials throughout Rep. McClammy's political and education career. Representative Thad McClammy, 1942-2021 Representative Thad McClammy was born in Beatrice, Alabama on October 22, 1942. McClammy attended Alabama State University where he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Like other socially conscious students during the 1960s, McClammy took part in campus protest, including his work with attorney Charles Conley and the ACLU. In 1966, Thad McClammy graduated from Alabama State with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Administration. In 1977, McClammy continued his education, earning a Master's of Science degree in Vocational and Adult Education from Auburn University. In 1982, Selma University conferred an honorary doctor's of laws on Thad McClammy. McClammy served as president of Trenholm Technical College from 1981 to 1995. In 1994, Thad McClammy successfully ran for a seat to the Alabama House of Representatives representing District 76. He had successfully won re-election on five different occasions. In his capacity as a Legislator, McClammy served on the Health Committee, Banking Committee, Committee on Military Affairs, Commission on Aging, State Committee for the 1996 Olympics, and Commission for Mental Health Facilities Construction. McClammy also help develop several programs and facilities. Among them the Montgomery Boot Camp, West Side Post Office, a daycare facility for the elderly, meals on wheels, Montgomery Small Business Incubator, and the Selma to Montgomery Voter's Rights Trail. Thad McClammy was a member of Day Street Baptist Church. He passed away on August 21, 2021. |
